This wedding at the Fairmont Copley Plaza gave us all the editorial wedding photography that we love. J+Z had one of those perfect weekends at one of Boston’s most iconic hotels.
The Fairmont Copley Plaza is one of those Boston wedding venues that doesn’t need an introduction. Yet every time we photograph here, we’re reminded of just how much the building delivers. Built in 1912 on Copley Square directly across from the Boston Public Library and Trinity Church, the Copley is Boston’s original grand hotel. The Gold Room ballroom, with its gilded ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and scale that fills without overwhelming, is among the most photographed wedding reception spaces in New England for good reason. It simply doesn’t go out of style. Decades of weddings have happened in this room, with politicians, athletes, old Boston families, and couples who just wanted the most beautiful room in the city and the photographs from every era have that same quality of occasion.
What makes the Copley particularly special for us as wedding photographers is the variety it offers within a single day. The bridal suite accommodations are generous and full of natural light, which makes getting-ready coverage feel relaxed and genuine. The formal Gold Room and grand hallway portraits have a drama that’s hard to replicate anywhere else in Boston. And then there’s outside the front door, from Copley Square, to the Boston Public Library’s stairs, Trinity Church, and the Reflecting Pool. It’s one of the richest portrait and architectural corridors in the city.
